Ferrosilicon products from  DMS Powders

DMS Powders produces different Ferrosilicon products with different characteristics. The following Ferrosilicon products are available from DMS Powders:

  • Atomised Ferrosilicon (FeSi): Coarse, Fine, Cyclone 60, Cyclone 40 and DMS 70. Particles produced by atomising are smooth and more spherical or rounded in shape.
  • Milled Ferrosilicon (FeSi): 65D, 100D, 150D, 270D and 270F. Particles produced by milling / grinding are rough and angular in shaped.

Although Ferrosilicon is used in a number of industrial applications or processes, Ferrosilicon products form DMS Powders are mainly used in the Dense Media Separation process to separate diamonds from diamond-bearing material. Dense Media Separation involves the mixing of Ferrosilicon powders with water, to form a mixture of a certain density. Diamond-bearing material (media) is then submerged into the pulp for the process to begin. Dense media separation is also referred to as a sink-float process, and is a basic gravity process to separate particles of different densities / weight. The heavier particles will sink to the bottom of the tank, or be pushed out the sides, while lighter materials will rise to the top (float). This method is widely used by diamond plants, to effectively separate diamonds from other material.
