Following the growing popularity for great quality pink bubbly that is softly sweet and instantly alluring, Simonsig is excited to introduce Kaapse Vonkel Satin Nectar Rosé 2017.

Demand for Méthode Cap Classique is on the rise as bubbly lovers discover the fantastic value and quality that it has to offer. Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel was the Cape’s first bottle-fermented sparkling wine released in 1971 and is well known for their Brut, Brut Rosé, Cuvée Royale and the most recently released Satin Nectar demi-sec.

Blended for vivacious fresh and fruity expressions, the cuvée is a composition of 72% Pinot Noir, 27% Pinotage and 1% Pinot Meunier that is bottle fermented in the traditional French method and spends at least 12 months on lees to develop gorgeous creamy complexity. The generous dosage is beautifully balanced for a graceful fruity finish.

“Extended lees contact adds to the finesse of the wine, delivered by a delicate string of fine bubbles. The colour of the Satin Nectar Rosé is equally classy, more copper than bright pink, with a palate perfectly balanced by fresh acidity and fruity flair. This is a very attractive MCC, both visually and on the palate,” says Johan Malan, Head of Production at Simonsig Estate.

The fact that this classically styled MCC is made from grapes harvested during the drought-stricken and challenging 2017 vintage, speaks of the great care taken, and the high hopes carried by, the cellar team for this wine. The harvest was smaller in 2017, and therefore the making of every wine needed to be justified – the introduction of a new wine, even more so. With no room for error, the cellar team worked with meticulous care to extract great fruit intensity from the small berries. “The components for the Simonsig Satin Nectar Rosé 2017 did not disappoint and we were delighted with the quality and intense fruit spectrum from the various blocks,” says Malan.

“The beauty of pink bubbly is not only about how it tastes but just as much as how it makes you feel,” says Cape Wine Master, Heidi Duminy. “It’s impossible not to fall for its gorgeous blush colour before it even touches your lips with a softly sweet taste of utter joy and euphoria. All this care in the crafting presents in an exuberant glass of happiness that is effortlessly tantalising. Expect vibrant expressions of crushed summer berries, candied apples, pink peach and whimsical Turkish delight.”

3 ways to fall for Simonsig’s sweet pink Satin Nectar Rosé:

1. Serve very cold at around 5°C in Champagne saucers or coupes for an absolutely fabulous social sipping sparkle.
2. The sweeter style begs for fragrant spicy dishes like Cape Malay curries or bunny chow as well as being an obvious friend of almost any guise of salmon, sushi or shellfish. You also can’t go wrong with a bowl of fresh juicy strawberries or our favourite Ma Mère Turkish Delight.

3. Pop a bottle for instant gratification – it really does have a magic way of turning an ‘anytime’ moment into a special moment in time. Laugh, toast and enjoy with good friends or in much needed ‘me-time’. Cheers!

Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Satin Nectar Rosé is available from most supermarkets and liquor retailers for an average retail price of R159.
