New And Upcoming Smartphones of 2020

Almost everyone today uses a smartphone, and there are so many on the market that choosing a new one can be extremely difficult. In 2019, we saw innovative releases from several of the major brands, including pop-up selfie cameras and wireless charging capabilities. However, 2020 is set to be a year of new and exciting features for smartphones.

If you are upgrading your smartphone in the new year, you will need to know what will be available to you. You might find that major brands are not offering what you are looking for in a phone, and so can look at other options that are within the same price range. Not sure what to look out for in the upcoming smartphones? Below we take a look at what options will be available in 2020.

Xiaomi Mi 10

This new model from the popular Chinese brand will feature a Snapdragon 865 processor, a 64Mp Samsung camera and MIUI 10. With these impressive features, the Xiaomi Mi could be a serious contender for camera-focused smartphones. The display is a bit more compact than other smartphones, but this makes it easier to carry around in your pocket.

The screen resolution is Full HD, making it ideal for people who enjoy visual content on their phones. It will also remove the Dot Drop notch for a smaller punch-hole in the phone’s display, where the front-facing camera will be housed. You can choose from 8GB or 12GB of memory, but there has been no news of what the onboard storage numbers could be. It will also offer dual-sim support.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

Foldable phones are going to become more common-place in 2020, with the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2  likely leading the way in terms of technology and capabilities. It will be equipped with the updated Android OS, designed specifically for foldable phones, and will provide users with a 6000mAh battery capacity.

The folding mechanism will be an improved version of their current folding phone, with all of the previous issues being fixed. Foldable phones might sound like something out of a science fiction film but Samsung is making them a true reality. Some sources say that the Fold 2 could be a compact foldable smartphone, which could draw a larger audience, as the smaller size means for easier transport in pockets and bags.

Huawei P40

Huawei is a wildly popular brand in South Africa and in other places on the globe, and so the P40 release has been met with much excitement. There will be a 5G option as well, for those countries who have adopted 5G and can use this phone. The camera specifications are impressive, with this smartphone offering five lenses, all with high megapixels.

The P40 will likely use the upgraded Kirin 990 and will have a punch-hole-style front-facing camera. The edges may be more squared than previous models, but this could change before its 2020 release date. The display could be upgraded to a Quad-HD rather than Full-HD display, but this has yet to be confirmed by Huawei.

Moto Razr V4

If you consider yourself a Millennial, then you know how much people craved and coveted the Motorola Razr – especially the pink one. Well, in 202, this model is making a comeback, but in a new and refreshed design. It is another foldable smartphone, and is said to have unique features that will surprise and delight fans of the older model.

It has a dual display with a secondary display at the centre, with a camera on the upper half of the back. The OLED-based design is extremely flexible and it will be using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. The 6Gb of RAM is a generic offering for a smartphone, and the phone uses an eSIM, which is new to South Africa and may not be compatible with some networks. There is also no headphone jack, but the camera and lenses are decent.

An Intelligent Future

With all the choices of smartphones on the market, it is difficult to choose one that will satisfy all of your needs. Xiaomi and Huawei are two innovative brands to look out form and Samsung and Motorola are entering the foldable phone niche with impressive offerings.
